The Devil at 37,000 Feet

Fascinating Vanity Fair article on an aircraft head-on collision above the Amazon…

There were so many opportunities for the accident not to happen-the collision between a Legacy 600 private jet and a Boeing 737 carrying 154 people. But on September 29, 2006, high above the Amazon, a long, thin thread of acts and omissions brought the two airplanes together. From the vantage point of the pilots, the Brazilian air-traffic controllers, and the Caiapó Indians, whose rain forest became a charnel house, the author reconstructs a fatal intersection between high-performance technology and human fallibility.

Macau last stop

Still not managing to get to a terminal where we can put the ever popular vids up. Had another great time in HK. We visited our vicars old-church in HK yesterday and met up with a few people they knew after the service. For Paul and Clare – we did meet Jo and Mike & Carry and Kristle (Ozzy teacher – not sure if that is right?) – we then to their favourite drinking place – which was Knutsford terrace – by coincindence round the corner from our hotel. Went back to the night market to pick up some kniock knacks and now we are heading for Macau for our last night on tour after Jo has bought herself a nice pair of boots (absolutely last thing we are going to buy apparantly). I have been bad though – I can’t resist bargains that is my problem.

Hong Kong Shopathon

Very quick post this time becuase i have 2 mins left on the internet system here and we are raring to do yet more sight seeing…..! Spent all day yesterday travelling with 2.5 hrs in Singapore airport shopping mall. Thankfully I resisted however Jo has got a very nice DKNY watch for her birthday (that was our excuse anyway!). We got into HK last night and checked into the hotel which seems pretty good. Tim has already been measured up by a tailor recommended by Clare Kenchington (our vicar’s wife who was based in HK for 5 years before France). I am looking forward to finally cutting the right figure – my only worry is with all the weight i’ve put on the suit might end up too baggy! Now it’s time to do some exploring….. we’ll check back later with the photos and vids…
